Day 13 – Gratitude Challenge: What piece of art are you grateful for?

Landscape with Wheat Sheaves and Rising Moon, early June 1889. Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo

This is the piece of art that I am most grateful for – Vincent Van Gogh’s Wheat Fields.

His art always fascinated me with Sunflowers and The Starry Night as my favorites. When I previously worked as an administrator in a hospital, the former director gave me a magnet with Van Gogh’s Wheat Fields. He said the rising moon in the back reminded him of me – a symbol of hope for the program I was in charge of. He added that I was like the wind beneath the wings of the program, changing things for the better. It was a very kind and nice thing to hear from someone who wasn’t even my boss at the time. It was the type of appreciation that I needed then because my boss was unappreciative of the work I did. Up to now, seeing the magnet still makes me smile.
